Mohammad Azharuddin Deeply Pained Over Removal From Rajiv Gandhi Stand

Azharuddin Heartbroken Over Removal From Rajiv Gandhi Stand

Former India cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin is heartbroken after the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) decided to remove his name from the North Pavilion Stand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. This decision comes following serious allegations of favoritism against Azharuddin during his tenure as president of the HCA.

The HCA’s action, backed by a formal directive from Justice V Eswaraiah, the Ethics Officer and Ombudsman for the HCA, followed a petition filed by Lord’s Cricket Club. The petition accused Azharuddin of making self-serving decisions that favored his personal interests, thus violating the ethics expected from someone in his position. As a result, Azharuddin’s name was removed from the stadium, and he has been instructed not to have any involvement with match tickets for the IPL 2025 season held at the venue.

Azharuddin Responds to the Decision

Azharuddin, visibly hurt by the action, said, “It pains me deeply to say this, but I sometimes regret having played cricket. It’s heartbreaking to see individuals with little to no understanding of the game now in positions to teach and lead. It’s a complete disgrace to the sport.” He emphasized that the incident is a personal attack and vowed to take legal action.

He also urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to intervene and address the issue. Azharuddin added, “I was not allowed to contest the HCA elections simply because I exposed the corruption within the system. That truth made me a target.”

HCA and Lord’s Cricket Club Dispute

The controversy surrounding Azharuddin’s removal isn’t an isolated incident. The Lord’s Cricket Club not only demanded the removal of Azharuddin’s name but also requested the renaming of the North Pavilion Stand to honor VVS Laxman, a renowned cricketer from Hyderabad. The club believes that Laxman’s contributions to Indian cricket deserve recognition, and they proposed the name change to the VVS Laxman Pavilion.

Azharuddin, in his statement, expressed his deep hurt, stating, “What’s unfolding is beyond comprehension,” adding that the situation feels like a personal attack.

Key Points:

  • Mohammad Azharuddin’s name removed from Rajiv Gandhi Stadium due to allegations of favoritism.
  • Azharuddin urges BCCI intervention and plans legal action.
  • Lord’s Cricket Club calls for renaming the stand in honor of VVS Laxman.

The dispute has stirred a wider conversation about governance and fairness within the HCA and cricket administration. Azharuddin’s emotional reaction and the call for justice have caught the attention of cricket fans and officials alike.

The controversy continues to unfold, and it remains to be seen what actions the BCCI will take. The case raises questions about transparency, ethics, and fairness in cricket administration, making it one of the most talked-about issues in the cricketing world today.
