India’s pace spearhead, Mohammed Siraj, has returned to Mumbai after playing a pivotal role in his team’s 2-2 draw against England in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Siraj was the standout performer throughout the five-match Test series, claiming 23 wickets and emerging as the leading wicket-taker.
The 31-year-old arrived at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai dressed in smart black casuals, greeted by a small group of enthusiastic fans eager to get selfies and autographs. However, Siraj quickly made his way to his car and left the airport to catch a connecting flight to his hometown of Hyderabad.
Siraj’s Heroic Performance at The Oval
The most defining moment of Siraj’s campaign came on the final day of the fifth Test at The Oval. With India needing to bowl England out for 374 runs to defend their target, Siraj stepped up spectacularly. His five-wicket haul in the innings played a crucial role in India’s ability to bowl England out for 367, helping India secure a dramatic six-run win. This victory earned India a highly respectable 2-2 draw in the series, with Siraj’s performance contributing significantly to the outcome.
Siraj’s Impact and Recognition
The Hyderabad Cricket Association has already expressed its intention to honor Siraj for his outstanding contribution. An official from the association told PTI, “We have not spoken to him yet. But we will certainly plan something (felicitation) for him, as he could be in the city for a while now. It’s a matter of pride for all of us that he did so well for the country in the series against England.”
India’s captain, Shubman Gill, was full of praise for Siraj’s effort, especially in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for the Oval Test as part of the workload management strategy. Gill said, “He [Siraj] is a captain’s dream, every ball, every spell he bowled, he came all out and gave it everything for the team.”
On his part, Siraj reflected on his belief in the team’s potential to win on the final day. “I always believe that I can win the game from any point, and this morning was no different,” Siraj shared, emphasizing his determination to help India finish on a high note.
As the Hyderabad Cricket Association prepares to honor Siraj, his impressive contribution in the series remains fresh in the minds of fans and players alike.
