Mukesh Kumar Fined, Receives Demerit Point After MI vs DC Clash

DC’s Mukesh Kumar Fined, Gets Demerit Point vs MI

Delhi Capitals pacer Mukesh Kumar has been fined 10% of his match fee and received one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s heavy loss to Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday night in IPL 2025.

According to the IPL statement, Mukesh admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment, ground fixtures, or clothing during a match. Since the offence was Level 1, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.

Frustration Boils Over After Costly Final Over

Kumar’s breach appeared to stem from frustration after an expensive final over, in which Naman Dhir smashed him for two fours and two sixes, helping MI rack up 48 runs in the last two overs. Despite taking 2/48, Mukesh’s final over symbolised Delhi’s collapse under pressure.

Delhi Capitals, chasing 181 to stay alive in the playoff race, were bowled out for just 121 in 18.2 overs, marking a dramatic exit. They became the first team in IPL history to miss the playoffs after winning their first four matches.

“We let it slip in the last two overs,” admitted stand-in skipper Faf du Plessis.
“Momentum is real. Their counter-attack undid all our earlier efforts.”

Suryakumar, Santner Shine as MI Storm into Playoffs

Suryakumar Yadav was the star of the night, scoring a match-winning 73 off 44 balls*, including a game-changing late onslaught with Dhir. Their 57-run stand propelled Mumbai to a challenging 180/5 on a two-paced surface.

With the ball, Mitchell Santner (3/11) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/12) ripped through Delhi’s lineup. The result confirmed Mumbai Indians’ qualification for the playoffs, while Delhi’s campaign came to a disappointing end.
