Pat Cummins on WTC Final vs South Africa: ‘Nice Change from the Regular AUS-IND Clash’

Pat Cummins on WTC Final vs SA ‘Nice to See Change’

Australia skipper Pat Cummins is all set to lead his side into the World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa at Lord’s. Ahead of the much-anticipated clash, Cummins offered a candid take, calling it “nice and different” to have a final that doesn’t feature India.

“In some ways, you expect India to be around… but it’s nice and different to an Australia-India final,” Cummins told The Guardian.

Australia are the defending WTC champions, but Cummins refuses to underestimate the Temba Bavuma-led side, praising their balanced squad and powerful pace attack.

‘South Africa Deserve to Be Here’

South Africa’s qualification has drawn criticism, with some suggesting their path—without facing top sides like India, England, or Australia—was soft. Cummins, however, dismissed such arguments:

“You can only beat who you come up against. Our route to the final was pretty tough but I don’t blame South Africa for having a different route.”

He also praised South Africa’s long-standing strength in bowling:

“Their bowling has always stood out… Keshav Maharaj is a solid spinner and their pacers are always a challenge.”

What to Expect at Lord’s?

Both teams are returning to Test cricket after a 3-month break, which adds unpredictability to the final. Cummins admitted that there are many unknowns but expects a cracking contest at the iconic venue.

Australia’s experience gives them the edge on paper, but South Africa’s hunger and bowling firepower mean the final is anything but predictable.
