Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will lock horns in a crucial IPL 2025 clash on Tuesday at the Mullanpur Stadium, with both teams looking to find consistency in their campaign. PBKS, who were table-toppers early on, now sit at sixth after a heavy defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Meanwhile, KKR, placed fifth, will aim to build momentum after their recent win.
Lockie Ferguson Injury Forces Changes for PBKS
PBKS have suffered a blow as Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the season due to injury. In his absence, PBKS are expected to restructure their overseas picks, with options like Xavier Bartlett, Azmatullah Omarzai, or Aaron Hardie likely to come in. With Glenn Maxwell still struggling—just 86 runs in his last 13 innings—Shreyas Iyer will have to rely on the rest of the middle order to step up.
Bowling coach James Hopes emphasized the need to involve Yuzvendra Chahal more in the game, saying,
“To win the IPL, we’re going to need Chahal. It’s just about getting him into the tournament rhythm.”
KKR Eyeing Spin Domination and Tactical Tweaks
KKR have a strong record against PBKS, leading the head-to-head 21-12 in IPL history. Their spin duo Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy have been outstanding, boasting the best average (20.62) and economy (6.73) among all spin attacks this season.
Moeen Ali, who featured against CSK, could be swapped out for Spencer Johnson if KKR opt for an extra pacer. Anrich Nortje is available but hasn’t played a match yet.
Veteran all-rounder Andre Russell could also be pivotal, especially with the ball. His head-to-head dominance includes dismissing Shreyas Iyer five times and Marcus Stoinis three times—making him a key weapon for KKR.
