As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 prepares to resume on May 17 following a week-long suspension due to India-Pakistan tensions, former India opener Prithvi Shaw has stirred curiosity with a cryptic post on Instagram. The 24-year-old wrote, “Need a break…” on his story, sparking fresh speculation about his mental and physical state ahead of a possible cricketing comeback.
Shaw’s Struggles Continue
Shaw has not played any competitive cricket since December 2024, when he featured in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. Despite setting his base price at ₹75 lakh, Shaw went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction, raising concerns about his form and fitness.
Once hailed as a prodigy—after scoring a Test century on debut and leading India to a U19 World Cup title—Shaw has been sidelined due to repeated injuries, poor domestic returns, and off-field concerns.
Teammates Weigh In
Shashank Singh, Shaw’s former teammate from Mumbai and current Punjab Kings (PBKS) star, addressed the opener’s ongoing struggles on the Shubhankar Mishra Podcast.
“Prithvi Shaw is underrated. If he goes back to basics, he can achieve anything. Maybe he needs to change his work ethic, sleep habits, or diet,” Shashank said.
“I’ve known him since he was 13. He has the talent, but needs to reset his perspective,” he added.
Future Uncertain
With IPL teams finalizing their lineups for the remaining 16 matches, Shaw remains a free agent. It’s unclear whether his recent post suggests mental fatigue, disappointment, or a desire to realign his priorities.
While Shaw’s name continues to circulate as one of India’s unfulfilled batting talents, it will be up to him to stage a redemption arc—should he choose to return with renewed discipline.
