Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu has openly criticized Rajasthan Royals (RR) for their continuous reliance on young players despite disappointing performances in IPL 2025. With the team struggling near the bottom of the points table, Rayudu questioned RR’s long-term approach and their failure to convert potential into results.
“You’re Not Here to Do Charity,” Says Rayudu
Speaking on ESPNcricinfo’s Timeout, Rayudu pulled no punches while commenting on the Royals’ persistent strategy.
“It’s been 17 years since they’ve won an IPL. They treat this like charity by investing in youngsters year after year,” he said.
He added that the franchise needs to focus on competing and winning rather than being appreciated for giving opportunities to young talent.
Mark Boucher Agrees: IPL Is for Finished Products
Former South Africa wicketkeeper Mark Boucher echoed Rayudu’s sentiments, asserting that IPL franchises should focus on performance over potential.
“IPL is not a breeding ground for talent. It’s for finished products who can win you games,” Boucher stated.
He stressed that no team enters the IPL with a long-term plan—they aim to win immediately, and auction picks should reflect that mindset.
RR’s Struggles Continue in IPL 2025
Rajasthan Royals currently sit eighth in the points table, with only 4 points from 8 games. Sanju Samson’s absence due to injury hasn’t helped, with Riyan Parag stepping in as captain in their recent 2-run loss to Lucknow Super Giants.
Despite players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, and Parag showing promise, RR’s inability to close out matches has drawn heavy criticism.
