A case of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation has been registered after an IPS officer’s wife alleged that her daughter was harassed during the IPL 2025 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 3.
Incident Took Place in Diamond Box During High-Profile IPL Match
According to the complaint lodged at Cubbon Park Police Station, the incident occurred at around 9:40 PM in the Diamond Box, a premium seating area. The IPS officer’s wife stated that her 22-year-old son and 26-year-old daughter were abused and harassed by a couple, one of whom is reportedly a senior Income Tax official.
The altercation reportedly began when the daughter left her seat to use the restroom, placing her purse on the seat to indicate it was taken. Upon returning, she found a man sitting in her spot. Her brother requested the man to vacate the seat, which he refused, leading to a heated argument.
Verbal Abuse, Physical Intimidation Alleged
As tensions rose, the daughter joined her brother, and the man was joined by his wife and son. According to the complaint, the couple verbally abused, threatened, and behaved indecently toward the IPS officer’s children. The daughter was allegedly touched inappropriately and subjected to offensive remarks. The son reportedly recorded the incident on his mobile phone.
When the situation could not be resolved, the siblings contacted their parents. The IPS officer sought help from senior officials but received no immediate assistance. His wife then went to the Cubbon Park Police Station and filed a formal complaint.
Case Registered Under Multiple BNS Sections
The police have registered a case under the following Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections:
- Section 351(1): Criminal intimidation
- Section 352: Intentional insult to provoke breach of peace
- Section 75(1): Sexual harassment
- Section 79: Insulting a woman’s modesty
Police confirmed that further investigation is underway.
