During the high-stakes IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, a clash erupted in the elite Diamond Box. The confrontation involved the families of a senior IPS officer and an Income Tax commissioner. It reportedly began over a seat dispute when the IPS officer’s daughter briefly stepped away, leaving her purse to reserve the seat. Upon returning, she found a man in her place who refused to vacate despite her brother’s request. This led to a heated verbal altercation, quickly escalating as more family members joined in.
Complaint Filed, Case Registered Under BNS
The IPS officer’s wife later approached the Cubbon Park police station, filing a complaint alleging that the man from the opposing party made unwelcome physical contact with her daughter. She also accused him of intentionally violating her daughter’s privacy and modesty. The complaint stated that video evidence exists, recorded by the family on a mobile phone.
The police registered a case under BNS Sections 351 (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 75 (sexual harassment), and 79 (insulting a woman’s modesty). Authorities have confirmed an investigation is underway and due action will be taken.
VIP Conduct and Security Under Scrutiny
The incident raised concerns over the lack of police presence in the VIP box and the failure of several high-ranking officials present to defuse the situation. It also brings to light issues regarding the behavior of elite guests at public events and the need for stronger enforcement of decorum and security in such high-profile zones.
