Rishabh Pant wrapped up a difficult IPL 2025 season with a brilliant 118-run knock against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, his innings wasn’t enough to save Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) from yet another defeat, ending their campaign without a playoff berth.
After a taxing season filled with injury setbacks and inconsistent form, Pant made it clear he now wants to take a mental break before India’s five-Test series in England starting June 20. Pant has been named vice-captain under Shubman Gill, who was recently appointed Test skipper.
“Just want to switch off for a few days, not think about cricket,” said Pant at the post-match presentation.
Pant’s Lone Spark in an Otherwise Dim Season
Pant scored 269 runs in 14 matches, with only one half-century before his final-game ton. His 61-ball 118 included 11 fours and 8 sixes, powering LSG to 227/3. But RCB chased it down in style, led by Jitesh Sharma’s 85 off 33 balls*.
Despite the loss, Pant was satisfied with converting a start into a big score:
“I was feeling good throughout the season, but today I made it count. I just played simple, targeted the gaps, and maintained intensity.”
Injuries Derail LSG’s Campaign
Pant pointed out that injuries to key bowlers like Mohsin Khan and Mayank Yadav disrupted LSG’s plans.
“You’ve got to play 40 overs of good cricket. Twenty won’t save you. That’s been our story.”
As Pant rests and resets, fans hope to see him fully recharged for the high-stakes England Test series, where he’ll aim to prove himself in red-ball cricket once again.
