Rohit Sharma Reveals Threat Before 2024 T20 WC Clash

India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win was iconic — but as the one-year anniversary nears, Rohit Sharma has made a surprising revelation. Ahead of the high-octane clash against Pakistan in New York, the Indian team was under a security threat and wasn’t allowed to step outside their hotel.

Hotel Lockdown Ahead of Rivalry Clash

Speaking on JioHotstar, Rohit said:

“Before the India vs Pakistan match, we were told there was a threat — something was going on. So, two days before the game, we weren’t allowed to step out of the hotel.”

He added that the hotel was overcrowded with fans and media, making movement almost impossible:

“We were ordering food in… fans, media — everyone was there. That’s when you realise this isn’t just another match.”

Electric Atmosphere in New York

The Nassau County stadium had a carnival-like energy, with fans from both nations dancing and cheering:

“The vibe outside the stadium was like a celebration — you just knew something special was coming,” Rohit said.

Pant’s Impact and Bumrah’s Brilliance

India posted a modest 119 in 19 overs, with Rishabh Pant top-scoring with 42 off 31. Rohit lauded his free-flowing innings:

“We just wanted Rishabh to be Rishabh… On that pitch, that 42 was as good as a 70,” he said.

With Pakistan chasing, Jasprit Bumrah produced a masterclass, finishing with three wickets to help India win by six runs.

“Bumrah is a match-winner. He takes wickets and doesn’t leak runs. Arshdeep was phenomenal too — our whole plan was built around their spells,” Rohit added.

Nothing Like an India–Pakistan Match’

Rohit concluded by emphasizing the unmatched thrill of Indo-Pak games:

“I’ve played so many of these matches, but every time, the energy is something else. That one in New York? Unforgettable.”
