Rohit Sharma Urged to Bat Lower as Mumbai Indians Struggle for Momentum in IPL 2025

Rohit’s Form Triggers Batting Shuffle Talks at MI

Mumbai Indians (MI) are having a turbulent run in IPL 2025, and Rohit Sharma’s lack of form at the top of the order is drawing attention. Former India women’s team captain Anjum Chopra believes MI should consider moving the ex-captain down the batting order if he continues to fail as an opener.

Rohit has scored just 56 runs in five matches so far with scores of 0, 8, 13, 17, and 18. Though MI pulled off a 12-run win against Delhi Capitals recently, they sit at seventh in the table with two wins and four losses.

“It’s Not Helping Mumbai Indians,” Says Anjum

Speaking to PTI Videos, Anjum said:

“It’s not a crime to be out of form. But Rohit is not helping Mumbai get the starts they need. If it’s not working at the top, the team should consider pushing him down the order.”

Anjum clarified that Rohit’s poor start doesn’t reflect his ability, but sometimes players take time to settle into tournaments.

“He hasn’t got the kind of start he would’ve wanted, but we know the kind of match-winner Rohit Sharma is. These things happen — even top players can take time to recover.”

World Cup Comparison: “Form Comes and Goes”

Drawing a comparison with high-pressure tournaments like the World Cup, Anjum explained that it’s more important for key players to peak at the right time.

“Would you want your best batter in form for the World Cup or not? These things come in cycles. Some players recover faster than others.”

MI’s Dilemma: Stick or Twist?

Mumbai Indians now face a crucial decision — do they back Rohit to come good at the top, or shuffle the order to spark better starts? With Hardik Pandya leading the side and options like Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav available, MI might be forced to rethink their strategy.

Not All Gloom for Shafali Verma

Anjum also addressed the recent omission of young India star Shafali Verma from the national side.

“It’s not curtains for her. She’s just 20-21. Every player goes through this. There’s always a chance to bounce back.”
