As Mumbai Indians gear up for the IPL 2025 Eliminator on May 30, all eyes are on Rohit Sharma, whose recent form has raised concerns among fans and cricket experts alike. Former India pacer Atul Wassan believes the veteran opener looks “disinterested” and needs fresh motivation to deliver for his team.
Rohit Sharma’s Recent Dip in Form
After retiring from Test and T20 internationals, Rohit Sharma has continued to play ODIs and IPL, but his recent numbers in the league paint a worrisome picture. Despite scoring three half-centuries this season, Rohit has managed just 329 runs from 13 matches—far from his best days.
Last year, he made headlines with a brilliant century against KKR, ending the season with 417 runs. But this year, fans haven’t seen the trademark flair of “The Hitman.” Wassan highlighted that after achieving almost everything in cricket, it’s now tough for Rohit to find daily motivation.
Former Cricketer Urges Rohit to Regain Focus
Speaking on the OTTplay show Bails and Banter, Wassan said,
“He seems a bit disinterested… The fire in the belly has diminished. A player must have some aim – be it legacy or longevity.”
He added that no great player would want to end their career on a dull note or tarnish the reputation built over years.
Will Rohit Step Up in the IPL 2025 Playoffs?
While Hardik Pandya has taken over MI captaincy, Rohit’s presence in the batting lineup is still crucial. With Mumbai aiming for a record sixth IPL title, a match-winning knock from Rohit could change the narrative. Atul Wassan remains hopeful that the star batter will rise to the occasion and show his classic form in the knockout matches.
With the Eliminator set for May 30, MI fans are holding their breath, hoping that their senior-most player can rediscover his magic and lead them to another IPL title.
