Sai Sudharsan Reveals GT’s Key Mistakes in Loss to Rajasthan Royals

Sai Sudharsan Points Out Key Mistake in GT's Loss to RR

In a dramatic IPL 2025 clash, Gujarat Titans (GT) fell short against Rajasthan Royals (RR) despite setting a challenging target of 210. Sai Sudharsan, one of the standout players for GT, pointed out key mistakes that led to their defeat, particularly a missed opportunity in the early overs.

The Missed Catch That Could Have Changed the Game

The turning point came in the second over of RR’s chase. Yashasvi Jaiswal, the RR opener, tried to pull a delivery from Ishant Sharma, but top-edged it. Jos Buttler, positioned at point, called for the catch but ultimately spilled it. Sudharsan later said, “We could have and should have taken that catch, that would have made a big difference.” Jaiswal, benefiting from this early life, went on to score a quick 31 in 16 balls, setting the stage for a huge partnership.

The Dominant Partnership Between Jaiswal and Suryavanshi

Despite the early setback, Jaiswal’s fiery innings and his partnership with Vaibhav Suryavanshi led RR to a commanding 87 after six overs. Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old prodigy, was in sensational form, smashing a record-breaking 38-ball 101. Jaiswal, though more of a supporting act, played his part with a steady 70 from 40 balls. The pair added 166 runs in just 11.5 overs, guiding RR to a 25-ball victory.

Sudharsan, who scored 39 runs for GT, acknowledged the dominance of RR’s opening duo but also pointed out that GT’s bowlers could have reacted better. He added, “The way they started the powerplay was brilliant, but we could have reacted better and had better plans. Maybe we could have gone wider or not bowled into their arc.”

Sai Kishore’s Limited Role and GT’s Bowling Strategy

GT’s bowling strategy, especially concerning R Sai Kishore, also came under scrutiny. Despite being the second-highest wicket-taker for GT with 12 wickets, Sai Kishore was given just one over, despite the presence of left-handed batters for a significant period. Varun Aaron questioned this strategy, saying, “Sai Kishore can bowl really well to lefties as well. He has been performing well and has the confidence.”

Ian Bishop, the renowned commentator, shared his concern, noting, “They have been doing this to Sai Kishore the last three or four games. Are you saying to Sai Kishore that he can only bowl when right-handers are batting?” This approach has raised questions about GT’s use of their key spinner, especially in a high-pressure game.

GT’s Playoff Hopes Remain Strong Despite the Loss

Despite the defeat, Gujarat Titans remain in a strong position in the IPL 2025 standings. With 12 points from nine matches, they are well-placed to secure a playoff spot. Their next match is set for Friday, where they will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at home.

While the loss to RR was a tough one, Sai Sudharsan’s reflections on missed opportunities and tactical errors provide valuable lessons for GT moving forward in the tournament.
