In a dramatic end to the IPL 2025 season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally lifted their maiden title—but a controversial moment from Punjab Kings’ skipper Shreyas Iyer has taken center stage after the final.
Iyer, who was dismissed early for just 1 run off 2 balls, is facing severe backlash for what many call a reckless shot under pressure. Former India cricketer Yograj Singh even described the dismissal as a “criminal offence” in cricket.
Yograj Singh: ‘It’s Section 302 of Cricket’
Speaking to ANI, Yograj launched a scathing attack on Iyer’s leadership:
“The shot Shreyas played is a criminal offence. Ashok Mankad once said it falls under Section 302—murder. A captain cannot throw his wicket like that.”
Iyer fell in the second over, edging Romario Shepherd behind the stumps. His early exit put Punjab under serious pressure as they chased RCB’s target of 191 runs.
Punjab’s Close Fight Falls Short by 6 Runs
Despite the poor start, PBKS fought back, led by Shashank Singh’s unbeaten 61 off 30 balls. Contributions from Prabhsimran Singh (26) and Josh Inglis (39) kept them in the game.
In the final over, Shashank tried to pull off a miracle with 22 runs, but Punjab still ended 6 runs short of the target. RCB bowlers Krunal Pandya (2/17) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/38) played crucial roles. Pandya was named Player of the Match.
RCB’s Joy Overshadowed by Bengaluru Stampede
Unfortunately, the title celebrations were marred by tragedy. During RCB’s victory parade in Bengaluru, a stampede killed 11 people and injured 33 outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Reports claim the franchise ignored crowd safety warnings. The incident has sparked a national conversation about security at sporting events.
