India stars Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma may now be top names in international cricket, but their journey from grassroots to stardom came with fun moments. In a candid interview on Gen Bold (JioHotstar), Gill revealed a light-hearted fight with Abhishek during their Under-16 days over his match bat.
“He was batting on 80 or 90 using my match bat. I asked him to return it because I didn’t want it to break. We ended up having a small fight,” Gill shared.
Despite the momentary disagreement, Gill admitted he always lent his bat to Abhishek, who made the most of it, scoring runs consistently.
IPL 2025: Gill and Sudharsan Form Dominant Pair
In IPL 2025, Gill has forged another solid opening partnership—this time with Sai Sudharsan at Gujarat Titans (GT). With 617 and 601 runs respectively, Sudharsan and Gill hold the top two spots on the Orange Cap leaderboard, helping GT become the first team to qualify for the playoffs.
Gill spoke about their chemistry:
“We both run well between wickets. Outsmarting the bowlers is a key skill we still practice. That’s been central to our team’s success.”
Abhishek’s Rise in India’s T20 Setup
Abhishek Sharma is also making waves in India’s T20I setup. With 535 runs in 17 T20Is, including 2 centuries and a strike rate of 193.84, he’s a strong contender for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Alongside Gill, he could form a formidable opening pair in the post-Kohli-Rohit era.
Final Thoughts
What began as a bat-sharing scuffle in Punjab has turned into two promising careers. Both Gill and Abhishek are now central to Indian cricket’s future, as they continue to break records and win hearts on the global stage.
