Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill made headlines during their IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad after being involved in multiple heated exchanges with the match officials. Despite the controversy, Gill stood by his actions and clarified his stance during the post-match presentation.
Heated Moments on the Field
The drama unfolded in the first innings when Gill was declared run out by the third umpire. The decision left him visibly frustrated, as replays showed a close call with Heinrich Klaasen’s gloves nearing the bails. Gill remained unconvinced and later had a chat with the fourth umpire near the Gujarat dugout.
The second incident occurred during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s chase. In the 14th over, Abhishek Sharma was struck on the pads by Prasidh Krishna. Although it looked out, ball tracking showed the impact to be umpire’s call, and the decision went in the batter’s favour. Once again, Gill was seen animatedly questioning the on-field umpires.
Gill Responds After the Match
Addressing the situation after the match, Gill said,
“There was a little bit of a discussion with me and the umpire. Sometimes there are so many emotions involved as you give your 110 percent, there are bound to be some emotions.”
He admitted that the intensity of the game brought out strong reactions but emphasized that his team is always focused on giving their best.
Titans’ Batting Approach
Despite the controversies, Gujarat Titans had a strong performance, putting up a total of 224/6. Speaking about the team’s strategy, Gill added,
“We didn’t plan those 22 dot balls. Our idea was to keep playing the way we do. Black soil pitches make it tough to clear the boundary, but our top order knows how to keep the scoreboard moving.”
Gill also mentioned that the team doesn’t rely on just one top-order batter to stay till the end, stressing the collective approach of the Titans.
