South Africa has revealed their 15-member squad for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 Final against Australia, set to begin on June 11 at Lord’s, London. Temba Bavuma will captain the side as the Proteas prepare for their first-ever WTC Final appearance.
Ngidi Returns, Core Squad Retained
The biggest boost for South Africa comes with the return of Lungi Ngidi, who missed the home season due to a groin injury. Now fully fit, Ngidi re-joins a strong pace lineup featuring Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Wiaan Mulder, Dane Paterson, and Corbin Bosch.
The spin department is led by Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy, providing balance to the attack.
Only two changes were made from the previous squad that played against Pakistan — Kwena Maphaka and Matthew Breetzke miss out, with Ngidi returning and a more settled top-order being preferred.
Strong Batting Core and Wicketkeeping Options
South Africa’s top order features Tony de Zorzi, Aiden Markram, and Ryan Rickelton, while middle-order strength comes from Tristan Stubbs, David Bedingham, and Bavuma himself.
Kyle Verreynne will don the gloves and is expected to contribute with the bat lower down the order. All-rounders like Jansen and Mulder give the lineup depth and flexibility.
South Africa’s WTC Journey
South Africa topped the WTC league table with a points percentage of 69.44, winning 8 out of 12 matches and drawing one. They secured dominant home series wins over Pakistan and Sri Lanka and drew with India. Their away campaign was equally impressive, with victories over West Indies and Bangladesh, and a lone series loss in New Zealand when several key players were unavailable.
Now, the Proteas head into the final against reigning champions Australia with momentum, balance, and a hunger to lift their first ICC Test trophy.
