Sri Lanka Opt to Bowl, Laura Wolvaardt Returns as South Africa Seek First Win in Dead Rubber

Sri Lanka Bowl First Wolvaardt Returns for South Africa

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first against South Africa in the final league match of the women’s ODI tri-series, being held in Sri Lanka. With India and Sri Lanka already confirmed as finalists for Sunday’s clash, this match is a dead rubber, but South Africa will look to finish their campaign on a positive note after failing to win a game in the tournament so far.

Wolvaardt Returns to Lead South Africa

After missing the previous match due to illness, Laura Wolvaardt has returned to captain South Africa, replacing Sune Luus. Her inclusion is one of three changes in the South African lineup.

Other Changes for South Africa:

  • Seshnie Naidu makes her ODI debut, replacing Nonkululekho Mlaba
  • Ayabonga Khaka returns, while Masabata Klaas is left out

Despite fitness struggles in the hot and humid conditions, Tazmin Brits, Annerie Dercksen, and Chloe Tryon continue to feature in the XI.

Sri Lanka Test Bench Strength

Sri Lanka, already through to the final, made two changes from the team that beat India:

  • Manudi Nanayakkara replaces Kavisha Dilhari
  • Inoshi Fernando comes in for Inoka Ranaweera

The hosts continue to rotate their squad ahead of the final, giving opportunities to fringe players while managing player workload in extreme weather conditions with temperatures above 30°C and high humidity.
