Srikkanth Slams CSK’s ‘Test Match’ Batting, Suggests Prithvi Shaw as Replacement

Srikkanth Slams CSK’s Batting, Suggests Prithvi Shaw in IPL 2025

Former cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth lashes out at CSK, urges MS Dhoni & team to break free from nostalgia

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have found themselves in deep trouble in IPL 2025 after suffering five straight defeats, including a crushing loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chepauk. Their recent performance has raised serious questions, and now, 1983 World Cup-winner Krishnamachari Srikkanth has added fuel to the fire with sharp criticism on social media.

“Playing like it’s a Test match,” says Srikkanth
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Srikkanth wrote:

“One of CSK’s worst defeats ever. Powerplay batting looked like a rehearsal for a Test match. Whole XI feels like it’s running on nostalgia.”

He expressed frustration over the slow and outdated approach shown by the team, even with the return of MS Dhoni as captain. Dhoni stepped in after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out due to injury, but his leadership couldn’t stop CSK’s freefall.

Calls for Prithvi Shaw as replacement

What surprised fans was Srikkanth’s out-of-the-box suggestion – he proposed that CSK consider bringing in Prithvi Shaw, the young opener who went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, as a replacement for the injured Gaikwad.

“Time to think out of the box. Why not try some unsold players like Prithvi Shaw at this point? Even chaos is a strategy,” he added.

With Gaikwad unavailable and CSK’s top order failing consistently, Shaw could be a bold move to inject some aggression and fresh energy at the top.

CSK’s historic low in IPL 2025

CSK’s recent form is their worst in IPL history. The loss to KKR marked their fifth consecutive defeat, a first for the franchise. The batting unit managed just 103/9 – their lowest total at Chepauk, and third-lowest overall in the IPL. Despite having match-winners like Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, and MS Dhoni, the team failed to create any momentum.

Will CSK bounce back or gamble on change?

With growing criticism from legends like Srikkanth and former stars like Sehwag (who also slammed Dhoni’s late entry in the same match), all eyes are now on CSK’s management. Will they stick with experience, or take Srikkanth’s advice and shake things up?
