Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), once seen as strong title contenders for IPL 2025, have now suffered four straight defeats, failing to cross the 200-run mark in any of those games. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has delivered a brutally honest verdict, comparing SRH’s batting style to “youngsters in fancy cars running red lights” — exciting, but dangerously careless.
SRH’s Downfall After Record-Breaking Start
SRH kicked off their season in style, smashing 286/6 in their opening match against Rajasthan Royals, nearly breaking their own record for the highest-ever IPL total. Hopes were high, with fans and pundits expecting a season full of explosive performances.
However, the 2016 IPL champions have since failed to replicate that form. Despite having a power-packed lineup, they have lost four games in a row, struggling to even cross the 200-run mark.
Star Batters Misfire
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who dominated the powerplay last season, have combined for just 84 runs in total this season with no fifty partnerships.
Ishan Kishan, who scored a century in the opener, has managed just 21 runs in his last four innings, including three single-digit scores.
Gavaskar’s Stinging Take
In his Sportstar column, Sunil Gavaskar pulled no punches, questioning the team’s over-aggressive mindset:
“There’s something about speed, isn’t there? Speed thrills but also sometimes kills… Their batting was like youngsters in fancy sports cars going through red lights and not being caught. Last year it worked, but now they’re getting caught.”
Gavaskar highlighted that while aggression is key in T20 cricket, reckless batting without game awareness is hurting SRH’s chances this season.
