Varun Chakravarthy Fined, Handed Demerit Point for Brevis Send-Off in KKR vs CSK Clash

Varun Chakravarthy Fined Gets Demerit Point in CSK Clash

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been fined 25% of his match fee and received one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

The breach was categorized as a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5, which relates to provocative gestures or language directed at a dismissed batter. The IPL did not specify the incident in detail but confirmed the penalty in an official statement.

The Incident: Send-Off to Brevis

According to reports, the incident occurred after Chakravarthy dismissed Dewald Brevis, who was threatening to take the game away with a blazing 52 off 25 balls. Varun gave him a visible send-off gesture, motioning him to leave the field — a violation under Article 2.5 that deals with actions “likely to provoke an aggressive reaction.”

In IPL disciplinary procedures, Level 1 offences are adjudicated by the match referee, whose decision is final and binding.

Match Summary: KKR Lose Despite Varun’s Efforts

Varun Chakravarthy bowled brilliantly, finishing with figures of 2 for 18 in 4 overs, but KKR failed to defend 179, suffering a setback in their playoff race.

They currently sit sixth on the points table with 11 points from 12 matches, and their qualification chances now hang by a thread.
