Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh, father of Yuvraj Singh, has made explosive allegations against the BCCI’s selection committee post the 2011 World Cup, accusing them of ruining the careers of seven Indian players and even plotting to remove MS Dhoni as captain after India’s overseas failures in 2012.
‘Careers Were Destroyed After 2011 Win’
Speaking to InsideSport, Yograj lashed out at selectors for sidelining key members of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning squad. The team had broken a 28-year drought by winning the tournament, yet many heroes were quickly phased out.
“You just destroyed these boys for no reason… Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Kaif, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid,” he said.
Only Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and MS Dhoni featured in the next World Cup in 2015. The rest, Yograj says, were “put into the gutter.”
‘Selectors Wanted Dhoni Sacked After Whitewashes’
Yograj also referenced the period following India’s Test whitewashes in England and Australia (2011–2012), claiming selectors wanted Dhoni replaced.
“We lost five series. He was told he would be replaced by Mohinder Amarnath. But that’s not how it’s done,” he said.
The decision was reportedly blocked by then BCCI president N Srinivasan, who overruled the selectors’ unanimous decision to remove Dhoni.
This confirms a long-standing quote from Amarnath, who had earlier stated:
“The Board President did not approve the unanimous decision to replace Mahendra Singh Dhoni.”
Context: What This Means for Indian Cricket
Yograj’s remarks reopen the debate about selection politics, captaincy favoritism, and the lack of a graceful transition for India’s senior players post-2011.
Whether these claims lead to further scrutiny or fade into another headline remains to be seen — but they undoubtedly add fuel to long-held fan suspicions about internal conflicts in Indian cricket during that era.
