Harry Brook performed magnificently for Sunrisers Hyderabad to score the first century of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday. The amazing milestone was reached by the England international in just 55 balls, and his innings featured 12 fours and three enormous sixes.
Brook, who was selected by SRH for a whopping Rs 13.25 crore in the auction prior to the season, had a poor tournament debut. He was, however, in top form on a level surface as the right-hander overpowered the KKR bowlers and nearly precisely timed his innings.
Harry Brook said that he was delighted he could silence the Indian supporters who had been “slagging” him off before he hit his first season-opening century against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday.
Before this century, Brook had struggled in the Indian Premier League. His first three games saw him score 13, 3, and 13, which sparked a lot of internet discussion regarding the Englishman’s form.
Harry Brook said
“You go on social media and people are calling you rubbish. There’s a lot of Indian fans out there who’ll say well done tonight. But they were slagging me off a few days ago. Glad I could shut them up to be honest,” Brook said after the match.
He said that opening the innings is the best time to bat in T20s. But he is happy to bat anywhere the team needs him to. He also said that the crowd was amazing and he loved playing at the Eden Gardens.
“A lot of people say that opening the batting in T20 is the best time to bat. I’m happy to bat anywhere. I’ve had a lot of success batting at five. Made my name there. My four Test hundreds will have to be over this one. The crowd was phenomenal tonight. I enjoyed it,” he said.
He slowed down a bit against the spinners in the middle overs but was extremely merciless against the pacers. With aggressive batting in the powerplay, the English youngster to could take time in the middle overs by rotating the strike.
“I’ve had a bit of trouble with spin, but I wanted to use the powerplay to my advantage,” Brook had said in the mid-innings break. “So middle overs wanted to rotate strike and let the other boys do the hitting. It is a belter of a pitch, we need to bowl our lengths rightly and take wickets. We still got a job to do. My girlfriend is here but the rest of my family have just left, I’m sure they’ll all be very happy for me.”
