"He handled the pressure beautifully": Brett Lee on Arjun Tendulkar

Following his dream final over for Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad in an IPL 2023 match on Tuesday, young Arjun Tendulkar has become the talk of the entire country. Arjun Tendulkar, the renowned Sachin Tendulkar’s son, had to successfully defend 20 runs in the final over while allowing just 5 runs and grabbing his first IPL 2023 wicket.

Young Arjun’s two-match IPL career has been quite the adventure, from his debut against the Kolkata Knight Riders to his dismissal of Bhuvneshwar Kumar to start off the wicket column.

While everyone highly praised Arjun, one of the best fast bowlers of all time Brett Lee choose to look past the 21-year-old’s flawless yorker delivery abilities. Arjun was described to as the team’s “yorker king” in a video that MI batter Tilak Varma released, and Lee lingered on the phrase, stating that the way he carried out his plans stands young Arjun in excellent stead. During the post-match awards ceremony, Arjun acknowledged that he had been practising the yorker and was happy to be able to use it when necessary.

Brett Lee spoke

“He handled the pressure beautifully. To give away just 4-5 runs in that last over, getting his first wicket in IPL. Congratulations to him but I had said prior to that happening, no matter what happened at the end, that experience of him bowling in the death – I’m hoping it’s a positive one – would just take his game from strength to strength,” Lee said on Jio Cinema after the match.

Arjun started bowling for MI against KKR at Wankhede and concluded with 0/17 in two overs. He bowled both with the new ball and in the death against SRH, going one batter and finishing with 1/18. Although speed may not be Arjun’s strongest suit, Lee believes that this exposure so early in his career will help the left-arm quickly advance significantly in his career.
