The selection of David Warner’s opening partner, according to Aakash Chopra, may be the Delhi Capitals‘ (DC) biggest concern before their IPL 2023 matchup against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH).
On Saturday, April 29, the two sides will compete at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium in the evening match. With four points each, SRH and DC hold the final two slots in the IPL 2023 points standings and will need to go on a winning streak to maintain their chances of making the playoffs.
Akash Chopra said
In a video previewing the match that was uploaded to his YouTube channel, Chopra expressed his opinion that the Delhi Capitals would be unable to decide on Warner’s opening partner. He explained:
“The problem is who will open with David Warner. It will be interesting if Phil Salt opens again. Can Mitchell Marsh be made to open? That’s another question. The batting order is slightly topsy-turvy.”
The former Indian opener went on to say that Axar Patel‘s ranking as the second-best batter is indicative of the difficulties the home team has at the plate, noting:
“Mitchell Marsh hasn’t scored too many runs. That is one problem for this team. Manish Pandey scored runs in the last match but no one is scoring a lot of runs. Axar Patel is looking like the second-best batter in this side after David Warner.”
Washington Sundar’s absence from the SunRisers Hyderabad, according to Aakash Chopra, will be a major setback for the team. He says:
“Washington Sundar was available in the last match. He picked up three wickets in an over but he is not there now. He is no longer a part of this tournament. So that’s another problem for Hyderabad that how will they cover up for Washington Sundar’s absence.”
The well-known commentator believes the SunRisers Hyderabad would enter the match on Saturday as the slight favourites, stating:
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled very well last time and he bowls well against this team. Can Charminar’s team make a comeback in Qutub Minar’s city? I feel the scale might be slightly tilted towards Hyderabad.”
