Kuldeep Yadav, a left-arm wrist-spinner from India, has had a terrific year, making an impact on the national squad and nearly securing a berth in the white-ball teams. He sustained a long-term ailment, though, so he had to practice patience while getting better.
Kuldeep acknowledged that his absence from competitive cricket at times made him frustrated and restless. Yuzvendra Chahal, a teammate from India, was praised by the player for supporting him nonstop during that time.
Kuldeep Yadav said
Here is what Kuldeep Yadav had to say about his conversations with Yuzvendra Chahal during his rehabilitation on the program “Breakfast with Champions”:
“Whenever I was down, from the Indian team I used to talk mostly to Chahal. I used to get mood swings when I was injured and had surgery. I used to get angry every 15 minutes and vent it to him. He always advised me to just focus on the rehab and the comeback will be great. It did help me a lot.”
With the Delhi Capitals (DC), Kuldeep Yadav had an outstanding IPL 2022 season, taking 21 wickets in 14 games. Few predicted this season of redemption because Kuldeep wasn’t playing enough games for the Kolkata Knight Riders.
The wrist spinner, though, emphasized how important a part DC’s head coach Ricky Ponting had in providing him some much-needed confidence. He declared:
“When I was picked by Delhi, I remember Ricky calling me and he has made one thing clear. He told me that no matter how I would bowl, I would play all 14 games. That gave me a lot of confidence and I felt settled. He doesn’t worry too much about whether I have taken wickets in the game or not. He just advises me on the areas I can hit as a bowler.”
Kuldeep has taken eight wickets for DC in nine games this season at an economy rate of only 6.74.
