MS Dhoni and KL Rahul on the verge of creating records as the two teams clash tonight

After suffering a heartbreaking defeat to defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the opening match of IPL 2023, legendary captain MS Dhoni is determined to lead his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to victory in their upcoming match against KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Chepauk. Notably, this will be CSK’s first home game since 2019, and Dhoni will be eyeing a spectacular record in front of their home crowd.

What record will Dhoni achieve?

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), led by the legendary MS Dhoni, will be looking to end their winless run in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) when they face KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in match No. 5 of the IPL 2023. This will also mark CSK’s first home game since 2019.

Dhoni, who holds the record for being the most-capped player in the history of IPL, is on the brink of joining an elite list of players, as he is just 8 runs away from completing 5,000 runs in the world’s richest T20 league. If he achieves this feat, he will become the seventh player in IPL history to do so, joining the likes of Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, David Warner, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, and AB de Villiers. With an impressive average of almost 40 and a strike rate of over 135 in 235 IPL matches, Thala is expected to achieve this milestone in the upcoming match against LSG.

KL Rahul could achieve a feat too

In addition to Dhoni’s impending milestone, KL Rahul’s pursuit of multiple batting records adds an exciting dimension to the upcoming clash between CSK and LSG at Chepauk. The LSG captain, known for his explosive-hitting abilities, is on the cusp of completing 300 sixes in T20 cricket, with only 11 more maximums needed to reach the landmark.

Rahul is also closing in on a significant milestone of 4,000 runs in the IPL, requiring just 103 more runs to reach the feat. Furthermore, he needs 65 more runs to amass 500 runs against CSK in the IPL. Additionally, Rahul has the opportunity to complete 100 catches in T20 cricket, having taken 94 catches so far in his career.
