The Delhi Daredevils (DD) suffered a severe defeat to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2012 Qualifier 2 in Chepauk, as recalled by former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag. The former DD captain acknowledged that a Murali Vijay Masterclass completely outclassed their team.

Virender Sehwag described how difficult it was to halt Murali Vijay and CSK in an interview with Star Sports. He stated:
“We were playing good cricket that season and I honestly didn’t feel we would have an off-day. Irfan Pathan was injured so I brought in an off-spinner for tackling Michael Hussey. But I didn’t know that Murali Vijay wouldn’t let him bowl to Hussey (laughs).”
Murali Vijay participated in the conversation as well and even mentioned his amazing hundred, expressing how driven he was to succeed against DD. Murali Vijay said:
“I was pumped up to play against a top side like Delhi and was in good form. We as a team were also building up in the right way for the playoffs and the match happened in Chepauk and I had a good time.”
Vijay helped CSK reach a massive total of 222/5 in their 20 overs with his 113 runs in just 58 balls. The target proved to be just too much for DD, who were dismissed for just 136 to be eliminated from the match.
Murali Vijay was one of the most refined batters of his era when he was at his best. During his IPL career, he represented three franchises. Before moving on to the Delhi Daredevils and later the Punjab Kings, Vijay began his career with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). 2020 saw him play for CSK in his final IPL season.
In 106 IPL games during the course of his career, Murali Vijay amassed 2,619 runs at an average of 25.93. In the competition, he had a strike rate of 121.81, 13 fifty-plus scores, and two centuries.
