The catch to remove Harry Brook from the game, according to Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, was crucial to their seven-wicket victory over SunRisers Hyderabad on Friday. Given Brook’s recent form, the Saurashtra cricketer thought it was imperative to get Brook out.
Despite having a slow start to IPL 2023, Brook exploded at the Eden Gardens with a hundred against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Against CSK, the Englishman had a chance to run away with the game at 18 off 12 when Akash Singh caught him with a low catch from Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Jadeja said
The seasoned all-rounder spoke up about the catch to bowling coach Dwayne Bravo during a casual conversation following the match, saying:
“Yeah, we took some brilliant catches. I know Brook, he has been hitting the ball well, so that catch was important. That catch brought us into the game. After that, the spinners came into play and they took plenty of wickets. So, I think it’s been amazing.”
After losing their first wicket, the Super Kings had trouble making runs against the spinners. With three victims, the Indian left-arm spinner emerged as the bowler of choice, while Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana, and Akash Singh each claimed one. Devon Conway afterwards blasted a flawless 77 to push the Super Kings above 134.
Jadeja continued by praising the Chennai fans and saying that they remain upbeat no matter the outcome. Added the 34-year-old:
“They always come up with great support and the energy is wonderful. Whenever we see the crowd in Chepauk, they are always pumped up and energetic. Whether we are winning or losing, they keep supporting and cheering for us.”
