Shimron Hetmyer produced yet another finishing masterclass against Gujarat Titans on Sunday. Hetmyer was directly involved in the Royals’ successful chase down of 178 with four balls remaining and three wickets in hand to defeat the Titans. The West Indies player stunned the defending champions by hitting a six and finishing undefeated at 56 off 26 deliveries to lead the IPL 2022 runners-up to victory.
Shimron Hetmyer, a batter for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), acknowledged that their victory against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the decisive over on April 16 made up for their three losses to those teams in the IPL 2022.
Last year, GT defeated RR three times, twice in the league stage before the decisive victory in the championship game.
Hetmter speaks after the match-winning knock
After the match on Sunday, Hetmyer said he was pleased to see a spinner bowl the last over. ESPNcricinfo cited him as saying the following:
“I was actually pretty happy, to be honest, to be facing a spinner in the final over. But I think he had bowled pretty well tonight. So I was just thinking, if I can just get a double off the first ball and then just see what happens after that. Just really wanted to win against these guys because they beat us three times last year. So it was a kind of revenge really.”
Hetmyer went on to say that he often gets mentally ready to finish games as he did against GT. The batter, a lefty, went on to explain:
“I just practice it really. It always helps to practice with the mindset that you’re a couple of wickets down and you have to get say 100 runs probably in eight overs. You just try to program your mind that way, and so far it’s working.”
The West Indies player scored a six to help the IPL 2022 runners-up defeat the defending champions while still remaining unbeaten at 56 off 26 deliveries.
