Sachin Tendulkar has been a role model for almost everyone in the world of cricket. Many of today’s cricketers picked up a cricket bat seeing the Master Blaster play. Rohit Sharma said that Rohit Sharma has been the source of inspiration for him to play cricket.
Speaking about his hero in the book “Sachin@50,” which was published to honor Tendulkar’s greatness, Sharma said that Tendulkar was the second-most important person in his life after God.
Rohit said
“Growing up in Mumbai, Sachin Tendulkar was second to God for me. He was a part of my growing up. My inspiration to play the sport has made me what I am. Cricket in our household meant Sachin Tendulkar. He was the yardstick in everything that we did. If you wanted to be the best, you needed to try and bat like Sachin Tendulkar. He was the defacto coaching manual. And then, to be able to play with him meant the world to me,” said Rohit in Sachin@50.
Sharma, who made his international debut in 2007, had the honor of competing against his hero in the later phases of that person’s career. Even so, the right-handed hitter earned his Test debut in November 2013 against the West Indies during Tendulkar’s final series.
As the series’ leading run-scorer with 288 runs at an average of 288 runs, Sharma went on to get hundreds in both games and was named “Player of the Series.” The current Indian captain achieved the milestone against Australia on November 2, 2013, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, further emulating his idol’s record of reaching a double hundred in ODI cricket.
Even better, Sharma gave Tendulkar a fairytale goodbye during the 2013 IPL season by captaining Mumbai Indians to their maiden IPL championship. The same year, he also guided the Mumbai Indians to the Champions League T20 championship, and then Tendulkar said his final goodbyes to franchise cricket.
